Tycho Brahe

Tycho Brahe was the outstanding naked-eye observer of the late sixteenth century. His instruments and observing programmes produced exceptionally precise measurements of stars and planets before the astronomical telescope came into regular use.

Why Tycho Brahe matters in astronomy

His observation of the 1572 supernova challenged the idea of an unchanging celestial realm, while his planetary data later enabled Johannes Kepler to derive the laws of planetary motion.
