Eric IV was apparently slain by two of Abels men after a year-long conflict between the two brothers, and even though Abel and twenty-four noblemen swore an official oath. After a dearly-bought victory over Abel, Erik III negotiates a truce with him but the same year he is taken prisoner by his brother as he passes through Schleswig and is assassinated
