Brief biography
Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace in 1874. The archive follows his early military service and writing,
election to Parliament, movement from the Conservatives to the Liberals, social-reform offices at the Board of Trade and Home Office,
service as First Lord of the Admiralty, the Dardanelles and Gallipoli controversy, command on the Western Front, and his return to
ministerial office during the First World War. It then traces his inter-war career, return to the Admiralty in 1939, appointment as
Prime Minister in 1940, wartime leadership and diplomacy, post-war opposition years, return to the premiership in 1951, resignation
