RMS Titanic ยท permanent subject timeline
Preparation, launching, occupancy and survival in the ship's boats. This page combines historical context with 83 matching records drawn directly from the World History Database Titanic archive.
Historical context
Titanic carried twenty lifeboats and collapsibles. As the ship sank, officers and crew prepared and launched boats from both sides under difficult conditions, often before their full capacity had been used.
Lifeboat capacity, loading practice, drills and evacuation procedures became some of the most consequential issues investigated after the disaster and influenced later maritime safety regulation.
