About the World History Database

A structured, independently maintained research database connecting historical events, people, places, dates, countries and subject categories.

Purpose

What the World History Database is

The World History Database is an independently maintained research database for exploring historical events through structured records. It connects dates, people, places, countries, events and subject categories so researchers can move from a broad search to a focused chronology, biography, place, year or event factsheet.

Structured records

The archive stores historical information in fields for year, country, broad and detailed categories, titles, personal names, event, place, date ranges, day, month and description.

Multiple research views

The same record collection can be explored through the Full Database, chronology, events, biographies, date and place search, and permanent factsheets.

Specialist collections

Dedicated collections provide additional context and navigation for major subjects while remaining connected to the wider database.

Permanent archive pages

Event, biography and year factsheets are generated from stored database records so important views can be read and crawled without first operating a search form.

Scope and limits

A research index, not a claim of complete historical coverage

Coverage varies by period, country, person and subject as the collection develops. Database records are concise research entries rather than a replacement for primary sources, specialist monographs or scholarly editions. Important claims should be checked against appropriate primary or specialist sources when used for academic citation.

Ownership

Independent maintenance

The site is owned and maintained by Malcolm Badley. The database and its permanent archive are developed as an independent historical research resource.
