Military Revolutionary Committee: overview and significance

What happened?

The Military Revolutionary Committee was established under the Petrograd Soviet during the October political crisis. Bolshevik leaders used it to coordinate garrison units, Red Guards and strategic operations in the capital.

Why was it important?

The committee provided an institutional mechanism for the insurrection within the Soviet structure. It was the operational body through which the Provisional Government was displaced in Petrograd.
