Petrograd Soviet: overview and significance
What happened?
The Petrograd Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies emerged during the February Revolution and became a major source of revolutionary authority. It represented organized workers and soldiers and exercised significant influence over the capital and its garrison.
Why was it important?
The Soviet embodied the problem of dual power. Moderate socialist leaders initially cooperated with the Provisional Government, but the institution later became the political arena in which Bolshevik influence expanded.
