Build historical timelines by event, person, place and period

World History Timelines turns matching World History Database records into a date-ordered sequence. Use it to trace how an event developed, compare activity across countries, follow a historical figure through time, or study a defined period from its opening events to later consequences.

Searches can combine structured fields such as country, year, person, broad and detailed subject categories, event and place. Results are displayed chronologically by year, month and day, making the page useful for research into wars, revolutions, diplomacy, politics, science, exploration, engineering and social change.

About this resource

About World History Timelines

World History Timelines is a chronological research view of the World History Database. It retains the complete database selection interface so researchers can build timelines by pattern, date, person, place, country, event, subject category and advanced fields without losing the original search options.

World History Timelines and the underlying World History Database are owned and maintained by Malcolm Badley, [email protected]. Records are organised to support cross-referencing between people, events, locations and periods.

For chronological research, use the World History Chronology or browse historical events. For research centred on people and locations, use the biography search, date search and place search.

Specialist collections provide deeper context for major subjects, including First World War battles, Second World War battles, D-Day, the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, Brunel and Victorian engineering, RMS Titanic and astronomy and space history.
